YSL Le Orange 13 Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick Review

Yep, another lipstick review. As much as I'd like to post about something else, I haven't had a chance to take other photos aside from the bunch of lipstick photos and swatches I did over the new year break. OK, excuse over. On to the review.

What they say: A highly pigmented lipstick that gives medium to full coverage in a radiant, satin finish. This luxurious, multitasking lipstick is Yves Saint Laurent's makeup must-have. Color saturates the lips while protecting them from the sun with SPF 15. A powerful cocktail of hydro-spheres and natural extracts comforts and hydrates lips throughout the day.

This is one of the boldest lipsticks I own. I was drawn to it the first time I stepped into Cosmo Cosmetics, but I only purchased it on my third visit. As much as I really love the bold red orange colour, I just don't have anywhere to wear it to. But the same can be said for much of my eyeshadows, so once again want triumphed necessity.

It applies so smoothly on unprepped lips. It's creamy enough that it made my lips felt hydrated... for the first two hours. Now, I'm not sure if it's just me unconsciously pressing my lips together too often, but it felt like the hydrating stuff slowly evaporated and my lips started to feel less hydrated and it started to sink into my lip wrinkles and cling to the dry bits.

It is quite pigmented that one swipe is opaque enough for me. Though that means for a novice klutz like me who needs multiple swipes with the tube to get a passably smooth lip line, I end up with way more colour than I can confidently handle. Even blotting most it off leaves quite a bold stain on my lips. Beware though, as blotting your lips will take off most of the hydrating stuff and leave lips feeling dry much quicker. As I have only worn it out as a stain, I usually applied lip balm every 1 or 2 hours. Of course, lip balm does reduce its wear time a bit.

Amazingly enough, it feels light and comfortable even with multiple swipes. For this review, I wore it around the house in its full glory while I was working on a sewing project. The colour lasted through snacks, drinks and using my lips as a third hand to hold my pins. So I'm stoked about its lasting power and can't wait to wear it on a night out!

(Yes, I'll be reviewing these other lippies soon.)

I've worn it as blush as well and it worked pretty well. A sheer wash turned more pink than the peach I expected, but it's still a lovely cheek colour if I'm in a pinch. I haven't experimented mixing lipsticks yet. But I may try it with this one to create a more daytime appropriate orange lippy.

It is also good value considering that I bought it for $25 at Cosmo Cosmetics. I probably would not repurchase this shade as I'm unlikely to finish it and there's so much to try out there. Though I plan to check out the Noir Laque shade (maybe it can satisfy my Tom Ford Black Orchid craving).

This is easily in my top five lipsticks at the moment. The colour is awesome and lasts over 4 hours on me (above average for me for a long-lasting but not paint-like lipstick which can last all day, except they’re not as comfortable). I'm a bit sad that the hydration does not last as long the colour, but I think that's the case with most long-lasting lipsticks. It's not for everyday wear but it's great for special occasions if I want major wow factor, but still want a lipstick that feels comfortable on.

  6. Just bought this today. It's intense alright but I swear I do wear orange a lot! I have a Guerlain that I wear a lot but can't figure out the color. It's not as intense as this. I also have MAC So Chaud which is matte. I am not such a matte person.
