Rimmel Pink Fame & Kiss Me Colour Show Off Lipsticks

I received these lipsticks as freebies from a fashion event over a year ago, when I was still rocking neutral shades. After falling in love with Guerlain Chamade, I dug this up from the bottom of my makeup stash, and gave these bright pinks a try.

I really like the hot pink packaging of the Rimmel Colour Show Off range. It's not luxurious, but it's not cheap either. It looks flamboyant, and is perfect for a range named “Colour Show Off”. The embossed crown logo is a nice touch.

It applies evenly on well-moisturised and smooth lips, but I imagine it’ll be bumpy if I’m having a dry lip day. The texture feels rather powdery for me, but it’s not too unpleasant. There is a definite lipstick scent that I am not so fond of and it lingers a bit too long for my liking.

Pink Flame and Kiss Me are matte, highly pigmented shades that are meant to last. Even wearing it as a stain with lip balm lasts a few hours on me. I do find the under layer of lip balm does not last as long, and I have to reapply balm or gloss on top to so my lips would not feel dry or uncomfortable. Like most long-lasting lipsticks, these dry me out and accentuate lip wrinkles if worn alone.

What they lack in moisture is certainly made up by the pigmentation of these bright, fun shades. For someone just getting into bright lipsticks, they are a pretty decent entry point at about AU$12 each. Just make sure to protect lips first with lip balm, and be vigilant for signs of flaking and dryness.

I prefer moisturising lipsticks over matte formulas so I won’t be repurchasing these. I do like the shades well enough that I may occasionally use these with a heavy dose of lip balm or gloss.

I am still quite self-conscious wearing bold lipsticks to work, so I am trying to acclimatize myself and everyone else by wearing them as a stain first. I’ve swatched a few lipsticks last weekend, but it’s difficult to find the time to test their longevity at full strength. And while I do love my tame, neutral lipsticks, it’s just not exciting for me to review them right now. So please bear with me as I churn out these reviews.

  1. Not a huge fan of Kiss Me...I got it as a freebie too and it just didn't work for me. Too bold!

  2. I agree, it is quite bold so I can't wear it often mostly just around the house, haha! I'm still getting my family/friends/colleagues used to the fact that I now wear a bit more makeup.
