Olive Oil Makeup Remover

My skin is on a strange rollercoaster. Some days I wake up with smooth, hydrated skin; some days I wake up with dry, uneven, blotchy skin. I blame the weather. We’ve been having an unusually cold summer here in Sydney.

But if I’m being honest, it’s probably my lack of commitment to any particular skin care routine (and the usual lack of sleep.) I have an overabundance of stuff to try out, and I can never tell anymore which ones make my skin feel great and which ones make it feel crap. All I know is when it starts to feel crap, I revert back to Avene Cleanser and Avene Recovery Cream as they seem to be the most soothing for my skin, though seemingly no longer as effective as they used to. Or perhaps I’m just not as patient in waiting for results.

As I was typing up my revamped routine yesterday, I had a “Eureka” moment.

I recalled using olive oil (in a re-used SK II pump) last week to wipe off my party makeup. I followed it with my usual Avene cleanser on Clarisonic Mia, Neutrogena toner, SK II Facial Essence and SK II Whitening Serum. All that resulted in smooth, hydrated skin in the morning. I picked up the olive oil trick from an old Michelle Phan video, and I use it when I’ve slapped on too much gunk on my face, so I hardly ever use it. Then Saturday night I stayed up too late, washed my not-so-made-up face haphazardly without the Clarisonic, slapped on some SK-II essence before hopping into bed. I woke up to gravelly skin, so I let my skin rest with just Avene moisturise with SPF.

I was so excited to get home and try olive oil again last night. I massaged it onto my face before my usual routine, and smoothed on some Dermalogica Super Rich Cream after SK II Facial Essence.

I woke up to fairly ok skin. It was not the miracle that I hoped for, but I don’t want to overdo it for fear of it breaking me out.

I still need to update the routine soon! I have so many products, but I also feel like I need to finish the ones that are already open.
