The first quilt didn’t work out as planned. I had pretty much sewed the whole thing together with wide horizontal and vertical stitches with my walking foot before I decided I was not happy with it. It just wasn’t smooth enough and it felt too heavy. I guess a patchwork top and a patchwork bottom with an old blanket as batting was too much for a newbie quilter.
I probably spent 3 hours unpicking all those seams. Good thing I had recorded episodes of The Good Wife to keep me company.
I scrapped the scrappy pink and green patchwork and just used the blue and pink patchwork with the old blanket as batting and quilt bottom. I wanted to throw out this very old blanket, but it held a sentimental value to FH as it was from his mum, so it became the foundation of my first quilt.
I love the binding.
FH loves it. Scampi loves it. I love it. It’s been keeping the three of us warm this autumn, when we spend lots of time on the couch watching TV.
