There are quite a few tweaks that need to be done to smooth out all the puckers, but I think it's not as bad as I thought it would turn out. The width of the straps are not even as I was still deciding between narrow vs wide lace straps.
I did take a few shortcuts with the muslin. I only pressed the princess seams. I didn't put any boning in. I was too lazy to baste a zipper in and just machine basted the center back where the zipper should be. I pulled it over my head and almost choked on the back piece connecting the shoulders. I had to unpick the back seam to take it off. But I forgot to take photos when I the back seam was sewed in. So in the photos above, the back seam was just pinned.
I still haven't decided between trumpet or sheath. I may need a second (and third and fourth) opinion on that one.
While I'd really like to figure out soon the yardage (meterage in metric Oz?) I need in the hopes of taking advantage of the Tessuti sale which ends on the 31st, I've been feeling quite satisfied at the stage I am at with the dress. I'd like to take a break from it and sew something I could wear sooner (the wedding is not til October).
I wrote a draft of this post a week ago. Since today is the 31st, I'm afraid I have missed out on the Tesutti sale.
