I've wanted to sew for years. I started looking up sewing classes back in Manila in 2003. Last year, I finally attended one, a 3-day sewing course called Traditional Tailoring Techniques I -- a pricey course but I learned a fair bit that I wouldn't have reading any of the sewing books that I bought or borrowed from the library.
Still, with the momentous, life-altering, happy events of last year, I've sewn nada. Sure, I made an A-line skirt with zipper and all in muslin, but it was too big for me and muslin was so boring to work on that I couldn't be bothered to re-fit and re-sew it. I've cut fabric for a pattern with over 15 pieces, but I now realise it's too complicated for my current sewing level with all those panels, top-stitching and pockets. Oh, but how I love dresses with pockets and I plan to sew pockets into most dresses that I eventually make.
Anyway, the huge pile of fabrics, the modern/vintage patterns and the sewing equipment/tools that I've amassed last year lie unsewed, unused and unread. But the past few days they are beckoning. I can't seem to sit still at work without thinking of my desire to sew.
This week I embarked on mending/repairing clothes that have been in the sewing queue for months. I used my ebay-bought, second-hand sewing machine. It worked well on woven fabrics, but it was horrible on knits. Plus, it only had 5 stitches.
Suffice to say, I am now shopping around for a brand new sewing machine.
Now there's a Brother NS30 on sale at Spotlight, but no reviews on patternreview.
And a Janome DC2101 on sale at a local sewing shop in the next suburb, but also no reviews on patternreview. Oh well, either I go for a walk to the next suburb tomorrow or go to Spotlight at Bondi Junction.
Wow. This is a really boring post. I'm sleepy. R's already asleep, and I feel like I should go to bed. But I've been waiting all the hours at work for this time to sew and read my new sewing book Sew Everything Workshop. And it feels like my day has just started.
Whoops! Scampi was trying to weigh in on this sewing machine dilemma -- she was about to sit on my macbook when I paused from typing and took a sip of my red wine -- and I accidentally spilt some red wine on my mac. And now delete button won't work.
Must dash and shutdown. Hope the delete key works tomorrow.
But not before I support my beau who's growing his mo. Follow and support R and his mo at gimmeamo.wordpress.com
